Empirical Games was founded by Valerie Shute and Matthew Ventura in 2013. Two education researchers passionate about learning and assessment in digital environments. The Empirical Games team has decades of collective experience designing and evaluating digital learning environments and has been awarded numerous grants to perform rigorous scientific research on effective learning in games. The team has worked in collaboration with key industry and academic partners including: Valve, The Gates Foundation, The MacArthur Foundation, and the National Science Foundation.
